Welcome!

Dear Neighbors and Friends:

The results are in and we did not win. Alderman Moore earned four more years to represent the 49th Ward. I spoke to him personally on Election Night to congratulate him and to let him know that I look forward to working with him to improve our community. Despite our many differences, we share a great love for our community.

Running for public office is a great privilege. Over the last four months, I was able to meet thousands of people, participate in four candidate forums, and attend dozens of coffees hosted by neighborhood residents. To the best of my ability, I answered every question put to me directly and honestly. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to run and have enjoyed the generosity of so many people who gave me this chance.

The results of an election determine who will serve in office, but they do not decide who will serve. As I close this campaign and prepare for what comes next, I challenge everyone to ask how you can be the change you seek in the world. Elections come around every four years, but the opportunity to make positive contributions to our community occurs each day. Your community needs you! I have committed myself to playing a constructive role in making our community better, and I hope you will too.

Warmly,
Brian White

Concerning the 49th Ward Rental Improvement Fund

I am pleased to see the 49th Ward Rental Improvement Fund getting attention, though I am disappointed at how far afield things have gotten, due largely to the overcharged rhetoric of Alderman Moore. His email on January 19 opposing the Rental Improvement Fund, in which he wrongly declared that advocates wish to TIF… More »

A Smart Plan for Smart Growth on Clark Street

Clark Street is Rogers Park’s Main Street, but if you look at the history of the boulevard and its potential to impact on commerce in the 49th Ward, you quickly realize it is not nearly what it could be. The street itself is comprised of several business districts primarily oriented to automobiles. More »

Brian Interviewed on “This American Life”

In this touching and darkly humorous radio piece, recorded in March 2009, host Ira Glass interviews Rogers Park residents experiencing the aftermath of the condo market collapse in Rogers Park.
